Once again, Stonnington Symphony brought crowds to the Malvern Gardens for the annual Symphony Under the Stars concert. The weather was splendid, allowing the audience to spread picnic rugs and enjoy the 'al fresco' event.
Mayor Cr. Claude Ullin opened the evening by recognising the traditional owners of the land and then calling for the audience to stand in silence in recognition of those who lost their lives in the recent bushfires.
Master of Ceremonies Francis Greenslade was host for the evening and took on the additional role of auctioneer as funds were raised for bushfire victims.
Special Guests, Deborah Conway and Williy Zydier, sang two pieces with the orchestra; Something's Right and Here and Now arranged for the orchestra by Benjamin Northey. They also sang two songs from their 'almost-recorded' new album.
The concert was presented by the Stonnington Council as one of its annual outdoor events and thanks go to them, and to all the staging, sound and lighting staff involved in making the concert possible.
The orchestra welcomes sponsor Bib Stillwell BMW who provided prizes on the night and displayed recent model BMW vehicles for the audience to inspect. We are also delighted to welcome the East Malvern Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank as a sponsor.
