Conductor and violinist, Roy Theaker has a diverse and well-travelled career. As a soloist he has performed from Suntory Hall, Tokyo to the South Bank, London via the Holy Citadel, Amman and the European Parliament, Brussels. Invitations as a Guest Concertmaster include major orchestras thoughout Australia, Asia and Europe.
Conducting engagements range from Mozart to Marvin Hamlish with the MSO, staged Theatre and Ballet in Portugal, musicalsin the West End to large scale symphonic and choral works with Stonnington Symphony and the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music’s Orchestras.
Roy can be heard on iTunes and Spotify as soloist with the Bulgarian National Radio and the Orquestra do Algarve, as a chamber musician with the Brodsky Quartet and as a conductor with Dublin Brass.
After studies at the Yehudi Menuhin School, the Royal Academy of Music, London and the Vienna Conservatoire, he toured extensively as a violinist with the Academy of St.Martin-in-the-Fields and the London Chamber Orchestra. Since 2010 he has been part of Symphony Australia’s Conductor Development Program, working with the Tasmanian, Auckland, and Adelaide Orchestras, as well as numerous engagements in the world of Music Theatre including Orchestra Leader with Conducting Responsibilities for the Melbourne production of The Lion King.
In 2013, Roy was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, “in recognition of his significant contribution to the music profession” and in 2015, also completed a Masters of Business Administration.
Roy has proudly been Artistic Director of Stonnington Symphony since 2013.
After graduating with distinction from the Victoria College of the Arts with a BA (Mus) in Solo Performance – Voice, Pip performed with many of the major opera companies and orchestras in Australia. She toured the country in musical theatre for several years, before moving to Europe becoming a member of the Vienna State Opera, as well as performing regularly at the Salzburg Festival, the Vienna Festival and as a guest artist with many other organisations.
On relocating to Hamburg, Pip refocussed her musical activities to concentrate on training and coaching professional singers almost exclusively in contemporary sounds, with a specialisation in post-operative and post-trauma vocal therapy. She has held lectureships in tertiary institutions in Germany and Austria, also guest lecturing at schools and universities throughout Europe and Australia, with further engagements encompassing vocal consultantancies on various musical and theatrical productions, including projects for the Wiener Singakademie, Tivoli Theatres (Hamburg) and Red Stitch Actors Theatre (Melbourne).
An appointment in 2008 by AIDA Entertainment in Germany to the position of Music Supervisor and departmental manager saw Pip further develop her work in arts administration, and on her return to Australia in 2010 she was appointed as Stonnington Symphony's General Manager.
Pip currently lectures in Music Theatre Repertoire at Federation University, Ballarat as well as in Vocal Technique both at Federation Uni and in the Dept. of Contemporary Music at the University of Melbourne, tutors and guest lectures in Vocal Health and Technique in various tertiary institutions nationally, and is Vocal Consultant and Advisor to various productions and private clients. In her spare time, she is apprenticed to a cabinetmaker.
