A Bright New World
Sunday 14 June | 2:30pm | Malvern Town Hall
Stonnington Symphony not only strives for excellence as a creator of music but as a creator of community.
Due to the rapid development of the COVID-19 pandemic and in the interest of the health of our community – our members, artists and audience – the Stonnington Symphony Committee of Management has made the decision that Sunday Series 1 – A Bright New World will no longer go ahead as planned on Sunday 14 June 2020. A full refund will be offered to all those who have purchased tickets to A Bright New World.
The Committee of Management will review the cancellation or postponement of the remaining activities scheduled for 2020 over the coming months in line with government policy and advice from City of Stonnington. Please continue to follow us on Facebook for the latest advice.
We encourage you to make yourself aware of any measures you can take to reduce your risk of coronavirus as advised by the Department of Health and Human Services.
In 2014 Stonnington Symphony launched our inaugural emerging artist program with funds from the Artistic Development Fund. We are very excited to welcome back Ingrid Martin to the podium to conduct a program of music from both sides of the Atlantic.
Dulcie Holland is not only a celebrated Australian composer but well known work in music education and work with the Australian Music Examinations Board. American composer William Bolcom's Concerto Grosso for Saxophone Quartet and Orchestra was premiered in 1999 by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Stonnington Symphony are proud to support our guest artists from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music through the Artistic Development Fund.
This stunning program closes with Dvořák's iconc Symphony No.9 "From the New World" - arguably one of the most popular symphonies of all times. The haunting theme from the second movement played by cor anglais is the composers most celebrated melody.
